Lot 1579:
An M1 (E) Garand Bayonet. Rare maker: Oneida Limited. This is an ‘E’ which stood for experimental. It was made from a cutdown 16 inch bayonet when the need for a shorter fighting knife/bayonet was being trialed. This proved to be a success, and the shorter bayonet went into production by the end of 1943. You can see that the ‘Fuller’ or blood channel has been cut, whereas a later standard M1 has a spear point after the Fuller.
