Lot 1010:
1943 Dated US M1E (experimental) Garand Bayonet. Maker PAL. It was realised that outside of the Pacific Theatre, there was no need for a 16” Long Bayonet, but a shorter bladed one that could double up as a fighting knife, mine probe etc. The first experimental batch were made by cutting down existing 16” Bayonets (you can tell by the fuller (channel)going all the way to the end.) which proved successful, and the M1 Bayonet was made with the fuller stopping short of the end.
