Lot 1407:
Scarce WW2 Home Front Fire Guard’s Zuckerman Steel Helmet Attributable to the Allen & Hanburys Factory Site in Ware, Hertfordshire. Grey helmet shell dated ‘41’ on rim and with ‘A & H’ over ‘Ware.’ painted in white lettering to the front. Complete with original leather lining and fitted with a bootlace chinstrap. These helmets had a high dome to withstand impact, were relatively cheap to manufacture and used a mild steel of a much lower quality than that in the typical Mk II helmet. They were worn by both male and female personnel. Allen and Hanburys Ltd was a British pharmaceutical manufacturer, absorbed by Glaxo Laboratories and later becoming GlaxoSmithKline.
