Lot 239:
A rare mineralogical phenomenon: A single, large (23 x 12 x 10 mm) natural, green TOURMALINE crystal with a
KUNZITE crystal growing on top of it at an angle. Total weight: 17.6 carats. The specimen originates from the
Paprok Mines in Afghanistan, a group of workings, South of the village of Paprok that explore pegmatite zones
within the local Triassic slates.
Kunzite is the best-known variety of the mineral spodumene. Named after George Frederick Kunz (1856-1932) American mineralogist and Vice President of Tiffany & Co (at the age of 23!)
